Challenges and Opportunities in the Post-Genome Era - An Introduction to Functional Genomics and Proteomics

Functional genomics attempts to decipher the functions of genes and their products helping to understand biology as a complex system. Ultimately, the goal of these studies is to improve human life: it is about solving challenges in molecular medicine and pharmaceutical research.

Over the past decade, new high-throughput data-acquisition technologies have fundamentally changed the way to study biology. The nature and amounts of data generated in this way have their own specific characteristics, and require novel computational methods for their analysis.

This talk will provide a brief introduction to the questions, technologies and analysis methodologies employed in molecular profiling.
