Total Absolute Gaussian Curvature of a surface mesh

Among the two well known surface curvatures, Gaussian and mean curvature, the latter found applications in mesh processing since in contrast to the Gaussian curvature it depends on the embedding of the surface. Also the total absolute Gaussian curvature (integral over the absolute value) of the Gaussian curvature depends on the embedding and thus might also be useful in mesh processing. In this talk I will introduce the concept of total absolute Gaussian curvature for a polyhedral surface and a how it may be used in mesh smoothing.
